To Hear and Encounter the Word
This Thursday is called Ascension Thursday
Why is Ascension Thursday such an important day for Jesus? Look at the Gospel reading below to find out what happened:
The Ascension St. Luke 24, 50-53
Jesus led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem, filled with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
On Ascension Thursday we hear how forty days after Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, he ascended (went up) to Heaven, to his Father. The apostles saw this happen; Jesus was taken up before their eyes.
‘Ascension’ means rising to a higher level.
